Back in Back Room

Blues dance is returning to the Back Room of Glen Echo Park! Dances will happen *every two weeks* for July and August 2022:

Back Room Blues: July 7, July 21, August 4, and August 18

Beginner lesson starts at 8:15. Dance starts at 9. $8 for the dance, beginner lesson included (teachers for July 8: Michelle and Jesse).

Tonight, our DJs are Tom Corwin and Boris Glebov

Notes for everyone’s safety: Masks that cover both the nose and the mouth are required, as is proof of full vaccination against covid-19. If it’s been more than 7 months since your first vaccine course, show proof of booster as well. We encourage dancers to bring their own water bottles and to take their water breaks outside (weather permitting). We will also have a designated indoor area for water breaks by the water fountains at the far end of the Spanish Ballroom.

Covid update: We’re coming back!

Capital Blues is excited to announce that we will be restarting blues dancing at Glen Echo in the near future. We cannot wait to dance with you again!

Logistical details are still being ironed out, but we are laying the foundation for the soft reopening with a details and clear policy on Covid-19 safety. This policy is now part of our general Safer Spaces Policy. In short: vaccines+boosters required, masks required. For details, click the link.

Covid-19 update

To the DC Blues Dancing Community,

Capital Blues will be postponing all Thursday Back Room Blues dances at least until the end of March. Due to the recommendations from the CDC and DC Department of Health, we are taking these measures to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Our community’s health and safety are our highest priorities, and we will be monitoring the situation and working with Glen Echo Park Partnership for the Arts and Culture to determine when we can begin regular social dances again. If you signed up for our March blues series class, we will be discussing how to proceed with GEPPAC, so stay tuned for updates.

We urge everyone to practice social distancing, please wash wash WASH your hands, and take care of yourselves. Know that the blues community is always here, and we’ll get back to our regularly scheduled programming as soon as we’re able.

We are thrilled to announce that registration is open for Red Hot Blues n BBQ 2020!

As usual, we’re opening all three price tiers at once and they will stay open until we sell out. We do this to help make the event accessible for those with a little less in their pockets. So, if you can afford it, please save the bottom tier for those who really need it and consider choosing a higher tier when you register.

On a Budget = $95
Regular Price = $115
Benefactor = $135

When you register, please click the additional tabs to sign up to request housing (if you need it), offer housing (if you have some to offer), and share your food preferences. Filling the food preferences–and sharing information on any allergies you have–is crucially important; Red Hot strives to accommodate all food allergies and restrictions, but can only do so if we know about yours! You can also sign up to compete in our classic dessert competition or our brand-new BBQ sides competition!

Mark your calendars for MAY 22-25 2020, for the sizzling, soulful event you know and love. We are back on Memorial Day Weekend!

Why is Red Hot Blues ‘n BBQ the greatest blues event you’ll attend all year? Because Red Hot is about community. Red Hot is about sleeping in, sitting outside with old and new friends, drinking up sunshine, and eating delicious food. Red Hot is about dancing your heart out just for the love of the dance and the music, fueling up with delicious home-cooked afternoon and midnight meals, and then dancing even more. Red Hot is a celebration of blues music and all the feelings it inspires. Red Hot is about focusing attention on the roots of what we believe the blues is about: building communities
