Lovely blues dancers,

I write to you with the heartbreaking news that Red Hot Blues & BBQ 2020 is officially canceled due to concerns about the COVID-19 global pandemic.

The organizing team met this weekend and determined that not holding the event this year is the right choice in order to keep our community safe and to protect the people we are all connected to in our broader lives outside of the dance community.

We are offering full refunds for both passes and merchandise to those who want them, but we also ask that you consider donating the money you’ve already paid to support Capital Blues. We are ensuring that the money we’ve already spent for this year’s event stays in the hands of the bands and venues that have already received it—folks who will absolutely need it in the coming days, given the current state of the economy.

If you already registered for Red Hot, look for an email from us in the next couple of days, letting you know what the next steps are and how to request your refund.

We are deeply sad about this decision. We love making food, dancing, soaking up the sunshine, and building community with each one of you every year at this event, which has become a staple of the D.C. blues dance scene. This decision was a tough one to make, but sometimes the right thing for the good of the community comes in the form of choosing not to gather together in person. This is one of those moments.

We love you all very much. We hope you are well and that you are safe at home. We wish health and peace for all of you during this time of uncertainty and fear, we promise to save you a dance when we see you next, and we are holding on with you for better times ahead.

As usual, we’re opening all three price tiers at once and they will stay open until we sell out. We do this to help make the event accessible for those with a little less in their pockets. So, if you can afford it, please save the bottom tier for those who really need it and consider choosing a higher tier when you register.
